You deserve better

Yesterdays post has been bugging me. Seriously the whole tone of it just got under my skin. Yes, there is a super cool giveaway involved (click here to enter), but the initiative is about so much more than winning a gift card.

So I'd like to take this opportunity to better explain what the GE Healthymaginations Pledge For Better Health means to me.

I was THRILLED when they contacted me to take part in this, not because of the contest, but because of the message behind the movement. Like I talked about yesterday, GE has started the Pledge For Better Health initiative in support of National Womens Health Week (May 9-15).

Their main goal is to get women to become more focused on their health as well as the health of their loved ones. Well... guess what? The whole reason I write this blog is because I want to help motivate people to take control of their health.

I know first hand how making one small pledge to yourself can turn your whole life around. January of last year I was 278 pounds and absolutely MISERABLE.

Yeah... that's me hiding behind the hat, sunglasses and stroller. I remember that day clearly. It was at one of my husbands work functions and I was mortified for him. I hated that he had the fat wife. I hated what I had let myself become. I hated that I had no control.

And I vowed to change.

On January 5, 2009 I made the pledge to myself that I would TAKE CARE OF ME. I would gain control of my life, I would be healthy.

And here I stand today, no longer hiding from the world:

It all started with one pledge to myself.

No matter where you are in your journey, we can all improve. So take a moment to make a pledge to yourself. Do what it takes to be healthy. Take care of yourself.
