Clockwork Orange in the City of Brotherly Love?

Do you remember those commercials where people converge into one area, like a supermarket or a mall, and then do something, such as race in shopping carts or have a silly-string fight?

I always thought that was a cool concept. Apparently, so do others. Some of it finds outlet in some sort of creativity. And some of it is oddly reminiscent of Clockwork Orange. I think the idea of spontaneous gatherings for a common purpose is unique and intriguing (see my previous post about critical mass), but I don't even know what to say about this.
