Christo, evidently a one-named artist, believes wrapping very large things in fabric is artistic. Ok. I'm game. Although his art is merely conceptual (I'm willing to debate anyone who says this takes talent), his art does have some value. His art reveals...umm...somethings that go unnoticed...?
Here are a few pictures of his stuff. They're all pulled off the internet, so don't report me.
Christo's projects are world renown, and look pretty cool. Here's something he should consider wrapping in more fabric.
(Christo, you'll have to catch him first. Also, he's covered in vaseline. Anyway...)
His newest project is to drape nearly 6 miles of fabric along the Arkansas River in a piece called "Over the River." The problem is that Christo is running up against environmental red-tape, a little thing called an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS), which is required for any large actions that impact the human environment by NEPA. So they did an EIS for this project, find it here.
I'm supposed to be working, otherwise I'd read through it and tell you what's in there. But here's the fun part - because an EIS was required for this project, the public gets to comment on it! Yes, that means YOU can comment on the project, Christo's work, or the public lands that will be effected: maybe you want to see it happen, go show your support; maybe you think Christo is a total ass-bag whose work isn't fit to mar the unique beauty of Canon City (just kidding that was Pittsburgh, PA)...either way now's your chance to make yourself heard. You can attend any one of these meetings, or you can write a comment and send it in.
A pretty cool thing about writing a comment is that they HAVE to take it into consideration and respond! Now don't expect them to come to your door and say "we really thought you were insightful and we hadn't even considered this aspect" because chances are they've thought about it and chances are they think you're stupid. But they do have to respond in some form - it will probably be a general letter ("In response to the crazy people who just rambled about the lack of artistic merit, who may or may not be literate...") that dismisses your points, but it is your chance to participate in our government. So go for it.
