As I mentioned, we here at the OTRA House are now in full-fledged pregnancy mode as week 28 rolled around today.

I'm so getting to be that pregnant woman these days: the one who's constantly eating, begging her husband to give her a massage, and using anything as leverage to get out of bed or off the couch.

Here are some fun facts about being 28 weeks pregnant:

Feeling: great, about 90% of the time. I can tell that the third trimester exhaustion is starting to rear its little (big?) head, though, as I can make it through most of the day just fine before hitting a giant brick wall at the end of each day.

And yesterday was a flat-out lazy day. Because it's been cold and rainy here in Michigan, and because I'm pregnant and can do so without feeling too guilty, I snuggled with the couch, Baxter, and cable-free television for a full seven hours, getting up only to eat and use the bathroom. I felt like a sloth, but it was pretty amazing.

Weight Gain: I was surprised to see that I'd only gained 3.5 pounds this month, as I've been eating like it's 1945 and the U.S. finally stopped making me eat only what I could grow in a Victory Garden.

Total weight gain thus far: 18-19 pounds.

Food Talk: Food has been my friend lately. I get along with all of it: from salads to salty snacks, ice cream to Oreos, I'm digging everything right now.

One particular treat that I can't seem to get enough of:

You'll think I'm nuts when I say I shelled out $20 for this 1.25-pound bag of carmel/chocolate/white chocolate popcorn, but my taste buds and my wallet were convinced by the miniscule Boy Scout who was slangin' it outside of my local Lowe's store last weekend. The food devil in disguise adorable little boy promised me that "I'd have one bite, and I'd be hooked on it."

Damn kid was right. I have at least a small bowl (or two or four) every night after dinner. The bag should read "Over 70% will be immediately eaten by Megan".

At least I've been continuing to balance out my Boy Scout popcorn-addiction with mostly healthy eats during the day.

Other Week 28 Tidbits

I had my 1-hour glucose test (a.k.a, gestational diabetes screening) today. This entailed downing a small bottle of super sugary glucose solution, which tasted like flat orange pop, waiting an hour, and then having a few vials of blood drawn.

Despite what I've heard, the test wasn't terrible. The glucose drink actually tasted alright, and I drank it down with ease. My only concern is that if I don't pass, I'll have to head back for the 3-hour version of the test -- blerg.

My skin is super itchy lately. I constantly walk around work and home scratching at my belly. In a non-drug related way, I remind myself of Dave Chappelle's Tyrone Biggums, who was always walking around scratching at his neck and doing other weird things.

Running has been Slow and Slower lately. Kind of like Dumb and Dumber, but without the cool suits and shaggy dog van. I'll get into details on this in tomorrow's post.

Life is starting to speed up, even though I'm slowing down in more ways than one. Our two baby showers are quickly approaching, the nursery is coming together, the child birth prep class is on the schedule for December, and teeny outfits are filling the nursery closet.

Still, I have so much left to do and, I'm beginning to realize, not a whole lot of time to do it. With the holidays around the corner, I want to get as much LBA-prep work done before I'm inundated with Christmas cookies and gift shopping and maternity-leave lesson planning.

Friends, family, and students of mine are dying to find out what we're really going to name the little one. I already told you: It's going to be Ampersand.

But if that doesn't work out, here are some of the names and silly guesses (mostly from my students) that I've been getting:
-Isabella
-Emma
-Emily
-Michelle
-Dorothy
-Gertrude
-Irene

My newspaper staff students suggested that I just tell them, and they'd keep it a secret. I gave them a hint, at least: the name contains a vowel. Ha!
